The SGA has passed a bill eliminating funding for The West Georgian newspaper.
Titled "Suspension of 'The West Georgian,'" the bill was passed the day after an article appeared in the Wednesday edition titled "Join a Frat with Buck Futter, Jr." which satirized Greek Life through the use of stereotypes, which many found offensive.
It has come to light that weeks before this incident, members of the SGA voted to cut The West Georgian's budget by $11,000. Two of the members of the committee, Rob Kelly and Elizabeth Anderson, had previously led protests against The West Georgian in response to investigative stories and opinion pieces lambasting last year's fraudulent elections.
The West Georgian has enlisted the help of the Student Press Law Center and the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education for assistance in fighting this breach of the First Amendment.

But seriously, the West Georgian is too small of a paper to be held afloat by advertising alone. However we do have a Mass Comm department and a student newspaper is integral to the education of aspiring journalists, this should really be a no brainer, the SGA is just screwing over the students here kids.
