Broken Bells

Broken Bells: Supergroup lives up to the name

Some even brave the shopping crowds, only to be discouraged when they find only loose, baggy and out-of-date outfits in their size. At times it can be hard to dress a plus-size body, but the secret is to always wear items that accentuate curves, not exaggerate them.

Thomas Cage, Karaoke Man

Tuesday night karaoke with Swing Shift Entertainment is becoming a must do in Carrollton. Groups of students pour into the Den every Tuesday night to become one-night-only rock stars and pop divas. Good singers or bad singers, it doesn’t matter.

Bonnaroo

The Bonnaroo Experience: Part Two of Two

Continuing on my Bonnaroo adventure, it was Friday night and we had met up with many of our friends from Carrollton. At least twenty good friends all showed up at the same time, it seemed, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Corner Cafe

On Adamson Square: A Plethora of Local Hot Spots

Downtown Carrollton is buzzing with history and cool vibes. Often overlooked by students, especially those less familiar with the town of Carrollton, Adamson Square is the place to hang out and let loose with friends.

Dum Dum Girls Make Lo-Fi Indie Rock Cool

Lo-fi indie rock is not in, but it should be thanks to the efforts of Dum Dum Girls on their “Yours Alone” E.P., released by Brooklyn’s Captured Tracks record label. Little can be found online about Los Angeles’ Dum Dum Girls, except that the group is the brainchild of a lady known simply as Dee Dee.

Bonaroo

The Bonnaroo Experience

Part One of a Two Part Series

Without a doubt one of the more exciting things happening in the music world this summer was music festivals. Lollapalooza in Chicago, Rothbury in Michigan, and Bonnaroo in Tennessee are just a few of the major music festivals that happened this summer. I was only able to make it to Bonnaroo, but it was enough to make my summer one of the best in recent years.

Yummy Franks

Recipe of the Week - Tailgate Edition

Mexican Bean Dip and Football Franks

The Wolves are tearing into the Stadium this week, and tasty tailgating food is on the menu. Easy and cheap, of course, these two dishes take roughly 10 minutes to make. The franks are great with nachos, chili, or hot dogs, and the Mexican Bean Dip will work with any kind of chips. So make a few pre-game snacks and enjoy the game!

Millie

Millie's on the Highway gets B+

Millie’s Pub & Eatery, located on Bankhead highway just across from K-Mart and Pizza Hut, is very easy to overlook. Although it boasts a neon sign on the front that proudly declares the old building “Millie’s on the Highway,” the fact that the restaurant is located on a hill discourages safer drivers from paying attention to it. The little-known pub has been in the same spot since 1987, but somehow most students seem to miss it.

"Gigantic" Review

Spending $6.50 with Grant

Gigantic focuses around the lives of Happy (Deschanel) and Brian (Paul Dano) as the two try to see if they’re compatible only to develop into one of the most confusing love stories ever. It’s strange considering I would have been perfectly satisfied to just watch them hold hands the entire movie.

Cobbler

Recipe of the Week

with Danielle Davidson

This is a super-easy, really fun way to make breakfast or desserts. Six ingredients, one bowl, one muffin tin; that’s it. These are really good with seasonal fruits, like blueberries or strawberries, and the fruit forms a kind of warm jam, like the inside of a pie. They’re really fast, and will make you look like you know how to cook. Make sure you grease the pan!

500 Days of Summer

Movie Review

If you take the title literally, "500 Days of Summer" actually rounds up to roughly a year and half of constant sunny days, consistently tan skin and alas, no school. I suppose we would have to account for Georgia weather throwing us some blistering hot days, followed with peeling skin and, for the unlucky many, the everlasting job hunt.

Laid-Back Jam Band Plays It All

"Snowcone For President" Wants Your Vote For Best Carrollton Band

Snowcone For President is a local three-piece, feel good, jam band with a growing fan base. The members are composed of Jeremy Neese- who is the southern soul sounding lead vocalist and also plays the twisted lead guitar, his younger brother Josh Neese-- who plays the funk-like bass and harmonizing back-up vocals, and Casey "Baby boy" Rooks-- who plays the hard hitting and up-beat drums.

There is no evidence that anything supernatural exists but people are abusively indoctrinated into religion during childhood & then immorally made into anti-intellectuals by GA culture. You should go with the evidence & face the fact that no God is real, but morality/ethics is important, along with science & they're well worth living for.

p.s. there is a methamphetamine epidemic on campus. Because of the recession, meth addicts who have lost there jobs are smoking it in the restrooms & it is being distributed through the air conditioning systems. An amount too small to show up on a drug test is enough to have a profound effect. I hope you are ok, whomever you are, but if you are at UWG & have been in an academic building, you are probably on meth against your will. This is surely the biggest public safety/health issue UWG has ever encountered.

I use my Sorority, AKA, as another outlet to show and spread the love of Jesus Christ. I love my sorority and the wonderful seeds we sow into the community and to the less fortunate; but nothing or no one comes before God. I think it's all in the person, your trust, your faith, your relationship and your walk with the Lord. I know whose I am and who I serve--Jesus Christ! So, being in the sorority is just another way to minister to other about the love and selflessness of Jesus Christ. But to each his own and if God told you to let it go, then let it go! Be blessed!
