Classes in the Humanities building were evacuated by the Carrollton and University police around 8 p.m. Wednesday night after a female faculty member in building was reported missing.

William Hogan was in class when, “The police rushed in and said that everyone must evacuate the building because it was now a crime scene.”

The Humanities building was completely surrounded with yellow barricade tape, university police vehicles, Carrollton Police and an Ambulance. A crowd of students began to form.

Police found that Senior Secretary Lynde Nix ofthe Music Department had committed suicide in a restroom, the third suicide at UWG in the last several years.

Students are still searching for answers as the investigation continues.

I lost my faith (had I any) for UWG years ago in many aspects. They do everything half-assed

Happened in the first floor women's faculty restroom next to the unisex restroom as you enter the building near the elevator. The door had an out of order sign on it at one point and is now unmarked. Nobody has reported this correctly. Irrelevant either way, though. Is still a tragedy and thoughts and prayers go out to her friends, family and to the department of music. There are a lot of people hurting right now so be mindful of that.

Why can't we have positive comments on here plz? I agree with Tired in a sense. I think they shud have at least cancelled classes for that day.. No i wasnt trying to get out of class or anything, I just think it wouldve been respectful. And rumors were flying everywhere, but ppl shudnt b criticized for getting them wrong. This was a very tragic event. No I didnt know this woman but my heart still goes out to the family. So just shut up nagging each other about stuff that doesnt matter. West Georgia has lost a staff member rather she was this wonderful lady or not. She deserves praise b/c she was a person. So can we all just be nice and just remember the Nix family in your prayers

While my condolences go out to the family (they're the only ones who deserve any sympathy, in my opinion), I cannot understand the glorification of this woman. Her actions are not courageous, nor are they deserving of the intense, sympathetic, passionate response the West Georgian and many others are giving. Remember that suicide is also a murder crime, which I don't believe is deserving of praise, either. She'll be missed, of course, and her struggle was unfortunate as well, but her actions should not be glorified or sympathized with.

To "Check Your Facts:"

The incident did in fact happen in one of the Humanties building. It occured in the lockable unisex bathroom located at the end of the hall on the first floor.

Might want to get your own facts straight before pointing fingers.

Rest in Peace Lynde. The music department and your elementary school kids will miss you.

Hey guys, the suicide did not happen in the bathroom, it was in a completely separate room which was locked the next day when I went by. Also she went missing around noon but wasn't found until 8. Please get your facts straight instead of spreading gossip. My facts came straight from a statement by Chief Mackel himself, not the half dozen inaccurate rumors that were flooding my phone's inbox, which included the bathroom the bathroom and jumping off the building.

So they should cancel classes for the rest of the semester or something? Get over yourself.
TIRED!

There was no respect from the administrative side towards the death of this member of the faculty. The next day the bathroom was open for use just as if nothing would have occured. The building was still open and no consideration for the memory of the staff member or the security of the students was given. People kept coming in and out of the Humanities building and the announcement for this tragedy was only posted as an "announcement" on myuwg site. I have lost my faith on West Georgia when it comes to the respect of its faculty or its students.
