However, the search ended on last week as Athletic Director Ed Murphy named Gary Lee as the new head coach of the volleyball team. Lee will be in charge of the Wolves for the upcoming 2008 season and will have big shoes to fill.
His last stint as head coach was for Division II Millersville (Pa.) University. Lee served as the head coach for the past six seasons, posting a record of 85-105 for the Marauders. Lee also spent four seasons at Christian Brothers, where he took them to the postseason twice with a 19-10 record in 2001.
Lee has a resume that also includes six seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware, where he helped to develop one of the top programs in the American East Conference. With Lee as the assistant, the Blue hens captured titles in 1992 and 1994.
West Georgia hopes that Lee can anchor the ship for the volleyball team, and help them defend their title in the tough GSC East. Murphy believes Lee is the right person for the job. "He has been a successful head coach, he knows the league, and he'll do a great job here," said Murphy.
