Outdoor Rental Center

The University of West Georgia has made it easier for students, faculty and staff to gain access to different types of equipment with the Outdoor Rental Center. The center allows students to rent equipment for various sports, including team sports equipment such as baseball gloves, footballs and tennis rackets, camping gear, climbing gear, bikes, water sports gear and other miscellaneous equipment.

This service is great for students who are trying out a new sport or who have forgotten their equipment at home.

Renters must sign an agreement where they are responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed equipment. All equipment can be rented on a daily or weekly basis until the end of the semester, as long as the rental is paid for in full beforehand. The rentals are no longer free, but many of the rentals do have a fully refundable deposit to ensure their safe return. Just like any other rental center, there are extra charges for late, damaged, lost, stolen or dirty equipment that is returned. All equipment can be taken anywhere as long as it is returned intact.

The awareness of the rental center is growing stronger by the day. Many students are becoming more excited about the top-of-the-line equipment that the rental center has to offer.

“The outdoor rental center is great for students,” said graduate student Kristin Smith. “There’s a refundable deposit and you have the opportunity to try new sports without purchasing all of the necessary equipment at full value from local stores.”

Tara Mostowy of Campus Recreation said that the university has been renting out equipment for a long time.

“Campus Recreation has been renting equipment since at least ’92,” said Mostowy. “But when the Campus Center opened, we really developed the Outdoor Rental Center into what it is today.”

The Outdoor Rental Center hours are limited due to funding, but Mostowy said that she can arrange rentals by appointment if it is during the week at a reasonable time. The rental center is located in Campus Center’s gym, by the bleachers. Renovation plans are in the works to expand the rental center, allowing access from the hallway by the locker rooms.
