The Vampire and Werewolf Phenomenon continued with the Weekends at West Georgia’s screening of “New Moon, the sequel to the popular Twilight series, in the Campus Center Ballroom on Feb. 20.

The film was originally scheduled for February 12 but was rescheduled for the following weekend due to the snow.

The supernatural romance tale continues as vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) leaves Forks in order to protect his mortal girlfriend Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). Bella’s werewolf friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) tries to distract her from the heartbreak. Bella discovers the secrets of Jacob’s tribe that may have deadly consequences for the Cullens.

The sequel did stay true to Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling book. The first half of the movie dragged on with Bella moping over Edward much like the book. The movie teases fans with the complexity of Bella’s love triangle over Edward and Jacob. However, the movie does provide fans with an adrenaline rush of special effects.

“New Moon delivers more special effects than Twilight from the werewolf transformations to a vampire combat scene.

“New Moon was much better than Twilight because of the action packed scenes,” said Grant Olsen, sophomore.

The special effects were a delight, but it was the shirtless Jacob and Edward scenes that proved to be a huge crowd pleaser among the female fans.

“I thought the movie was really good. I liked it better than Twilight because of Jacob’s shirtless scenes,” said Shanee Butler, freshman.

New Moon proves to be satisfying for the Twilight fans. UWG freshman Lori Payton has read the series three times said “I think New Moon is an awesome sequel. I especially liked how the storyline is similar to the book.”

The third Twilight saga movie “Eclipse” comes to theaters June 30, 2010.
